From Mary (O'Conell) Genovese
Hello!
My Great-Grandparents were married in August 1844 in Kells, in the Diocese of Meath; their names were Thomas Connell
(born about 1814 in Mullingar, Parish of Killalon, Co Westmeath) and Anne Fox (born about 1829, Parish of Killalon,
Co Westmeath). They had their first child, Mary O'Connell baptized on the 29 June 1845 in Clonmellon, Diocese of Meath.
Their second child, James O'Connell was born in Ireland in about 1847. By 1850 the family had emigrated to the US and
was living in the State of Wisconsin.
I realize their departure, sometime between 1847 and 1850, was during the Great Hunger. But, I am trying to find out
any information I can about where my Great-Grandparents and my great-aunt and great-uncle would have lived, and
possibly about their lives in the Clonmellon area prior to leaving Ireland. Would it be possible to find out if there are
any family members (Connell/O'Connell, Fox, Cardle, Clusker/Cluskin families) that still live in the area?
Are cemetery records available to determine where the family members who remained in Ireland area buried?
My husband and I will be visiting Ireland in September and hope to pay our respects in Clonmellon.
Thank you for any suggestions you may have!
